How to Play Texas Hold'em
Overview
Thanks to its constant appearance on television, Texas Hold-Em has recently become the most popular form of poker. Like other versions of the game, Texas Hold-Em involves several rounds of betting, and the winner of each hand is determined by the basic poker hand standings. Texas Hold-Em is regularly played in casinos, poker rooms and online communities. Many poker enthusiasts who play Texas Hold-Em regularly use a system of mathematical odds to determine the quality of their hand.
Step 1
Distribute the same amount of betting chips to each player and determine who will be the dealer first. All players should also agree on how much the required pre-hand bets, otherwise known as blinds, will be.
Step 2
Place blinds into the main pot in the center of the table. The player sitting directly to the left of the dealer is required to put in the small blind, and the player to the left of the small blind is required to put in the big blind.
Step 3
Deal two cards face down to each player. Initial betting begins with the player to the right of the dealer. All players can either call the big blind bet or fold their hand.
Step 4
Deal one card into a discard pile and then deal one card face up into the middle of the table. Repeat until there are three cards face up. These cards, also known as "the flop," can be used by any player in combination with their two face-down cards. Another round of betting now occurs.
Step 5
Deal one card into the discard pile and then one card face up next to "the flop." This fourth shared card is also called "the turn." All remaining players bet again.
Step 6
Deal another card into the discard pile and then one card face up next to "the turn." This fifth and final shared card is known as "the river." All remaining players complete the last round of betting.
Step 7
Determine the winner among the remaining players. All players reveal their two face-down cards, and the player with the best five-card combination using his two face-down cards and the five shared cards wins.
