Caesars Palace in Atlantic City actually has its roots in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jay Sarno, a resort owner, purchased some property on the Vegas Strip. He began construction on a hotel and casino. At first, he wanted a beach theme, but he changed it to a Roman theme to evoke class, luxury and decadence. It was the first theme casino, and the concept was replicated many times over by subsequent casinos. As the Caesars franchise expanded, Atlantic City emerged as a natural location for a Caesars Palace. The success of the Las Vegas original was soon duplicated in New Jersey. Caesars Palace in Atlantic City was opened in May of 1979. It is currently owned by Harrah's Entertainment.
